Scientific project with assistance from Foundation for fundamental scientific research «Civic turnover and digital age: challenges and opportunities»

On June 27, 2019 in the Academic council hall at Kutafin Moscow State Law University (MSAL) was hold an interdisciplinary round table on the subject: “Civic turnover and digital age: challenges and opportunities”. Present as promotors of the roundtable were the Department of Civil Law amnd the Department for Intellectual Property Rights at Kutafin Moscow State Law University (MSAL), with participation from the Analytic Centre for the Government of Russian Federation. The organization of interdisciplinary research on Juridical subjects – a new development for Juridical sciences, follows the fast development of civic interactions facing new great challenges. Such studies require the cooperation in study groups coopting not only juridical researchers, but also scientists from other disciplines and in particular from technics discipline and natural sciences. It is gratifying that such scheme received support from the Russian Foundation for fundamental scientific research (RFFI) which in 2018 announced a competition for the best interdisciplinary research project (competition MK).

One of the most important topics within the framework of this competition is the topic “Transformations in law in the conditions of development of digital technologies”. During the interdisciplinary roundtable “Civic turnover and digital age: challenges and opportunities” were presented the results from the first year of research from study groups that implement projects in the framework of the competition at the University O E Kutafin (MSAL) with financial support from the RFFI. Moderators at the roundtable were Elena Bogdanova, Doctor of Law, Acting Professor. Head of the Department of Civil Law of the University O.E. Kutafin (MSAL), Elena Avakian, adviser to the Federal Chamber of Lawyers of the Russian Federation, adviser to the law office “Egorov, Puginsky, Afanasyev and partners”, executive director of the NP “Assistance to development of corporate legislation”, lecturer in the Department of Intellectual Property at the University O.E. Kutafin (MSAL), Oleg Grinn Ph.D. in Juridical Sciences, Associate Professor, Director of the Center for Monitoring Legislation and Law Enforcement, Associate Professor of the Department of Civil Law of the University O.E. Kutafina (MSLA). The welcome address to the participants of the interdisciplinary roundtable was hold by Vladimir Siniukov doctor in juridical sciences, professor, pro rector for juridical studies at the University O.E. Kutafin (MSAL), and also by Sergey Leshchenko, Deputy Head of the Project Office for the implementation of the national program "Digital Economy of the Russian Federation" at the Analytical Center under the Government of the Russian Federation.

The following issues were discussed at the interdisciplinary round table: - contract law in the development of digital technologies; Intellectual property rights in the sphere of virtual and augmented reality technologies - civic turnover in terms of the development of big data technology; - legal regulation related to the collective use of goods and services (sharing economy), legal framework for the use of digital technologies in the banking sector, etc. The moderators of the round table, Elena Bogdanova and Elena Avakyan, held an introductory presentation, where they resumed the problems of the main planned areas of discussion. Concluding the interdisciplinary round table “Civic Turnover in the Digital Age: Challenges and Opportunities” Ph.D. in Juridical Sciences, Associate Professor, Director of the Center for Monitoring Legislation and Law Enforcement, Associate Professor of the Department of Civil Law of the University O.E. Kutafin (MSAL) Oleg Grinn stressed the relevance of the topics discussed, the importance of the discussion and the fundamental nature of the research.
