On February 02, 2021 Kutafin Moscow State Law University (MSAL), RUDN University and International Alliance of Jurists and Economists hold joint International Scientific and Educational Conference “Law and Space: Current Problems and World Development Trends”.
International treaties on space adopted more than half a century ago define the principles of exploration and use of space and celestial bodies, as well as establish special legal regimes for space activities. At the same time, in the XXI century, the international community faced new challenges in space exploration and use of space, which had not properly legally resolved. In addition, a number of states, first of all the USA, have adopted legal acts whose compatibility with those treaties may be questioned.
The discussions of the Conference will cover the following areas:
I. General problems of the legal regime of space activities:
1. Experience in implementing international space treaties;
2. Prospects for the colonization of celestial bodies (main parameters of the legal regime);
3. Space safety and motion control in space;
4. Legal problems in the development of celestial resources;
5. Prospects for conclusion and implementation of the Artemis Accords;
6. Legal regime for the space activities of individuals and companies;
7. Institutional cooperation of states in space exploration;
8. Novels of national space law;
9. Russian position: maintaining status quo or reforming space law.
II. Special problems of the legal regime for space activities:
1. Legal regime for fundamental research (astronomy and geophysics, cosmic ray physics; cosmic plasma physics, cosmic materials science; cosmic biology and physiology);
2. Legal regime of commercial activity (meteorology, remote sensing, navigation systems, TV broadcasting, energy, telemedicine);
3. Licensing and insurance of space activities, protection of intellectual property.
The Conference will be attended by leading experts and scientists in space law. The Conference is held based on the Kutafin Moscow State Law University (MSAL) and on the ZOOM platform, from 11:00 to 18:00 (Moscow time).
