The Institute for Advanced Studies is a structural unit of the Kutafin University.

The institute offers additional professional education programs:: advanced professional training, continuous training programs, and holds regular seminars and ’research Thursdays’ dedicated to discussion of the most urgent aspects of the Russian law.

The Institute of Legal Translation implements programs in advanced foreign language training. The students are offered courses in English, German, French, Spanish and Chinese. In our ageof globalization and active intercultural communication, communicate in a foreign language is crucial – beyond that, it should be mastered enough for professional communication. Command of several foreign languages often becomes a requirement for successful career.

Goals of the Institute:

• develop the students’ level of language skills to proficiency level;

• increase competitiveness of graduates of our programs in the labor market;

• enhance legal qualification of a lawyer, complementing it with foreign language competency.

We help to acquire and develop the following skills:

• understanding, translation and analysis of legal text in a foreign language;

• business correspondence in a foreign language;

• negotiations with foreign partners;

• concluding contracts with foreign companies.

This will allow the students to:

• understand legislation in the country of the studied language, as well as international law;

• correctly create CVs and motivation letters in a foreign language;

• participate in international conferences and round tables;

• establish contacts with foreign companies;

• easily communicate with foreign colleagues;

• and finally, simply be able to communicate in a foreign language!

The teachers of the Institute are experienced professionals working at 2 language departments of the University, who have been training students according to various language programs for many years, including “Translation in Professional Communication”. Our teachers are also authors of many foreign language manuals and study guides in, including manuals on professional legal communication in foreign languages.

Upon successful completion of professional training programs, diplomas of additional qualifications are awarded which give the right to professional activities as part of the main qualification; certificate is awarded following short-term training programs.

The teaching methodology is compliant with all modern requirements, classes are held in language laboratories equipped with interactive whiteboards and projectors. To ensure efficient learning, the latest authentic and Russian textbooks and teaching aids are used in the training process.
